The first full moon of the year is in Cancer, bringing a wave of intense emotional energy that’s hard to ignore. Cancer, ruled by the moon, amplifies our feelings and intuition, while in close proximity Mars, planet of anger and action, adds a fiery edge. To make matters even more dramatic, Mars is retrograde, stirring up unresolved emotions and old frustrations.

It’s fair to say this full moon packs a punch. If you’ve started 2025 with the intention of letting go of the past, the universe is here to help, albeit in a slightly dramatic way. But if you’re hoping for smooth sailing and calm vibes, you may need to put in a little extra effort to ride this wave without being swept away.

This moon is asking for honesty, especially when it comes to how we feel. Anger, frustration, sadness, or longing, all these emotions might show up, asking to be noticed. Ignoring them won’t make them go away; instead, they’re likely to demand attention until they’re processed and released.

Thankfully, there’s a softer side to this energy too. Neptune, the planet of dreams, intuition, and spirituality, is harmonising with this full moon. Even if emotions run high, there’s an invitation to pause, breathe, and find healing in creative or spiritual practices.

Chakras to work with this Full Moon

This Full Moon in Cancer primarily aligns with the heart chakra and the solar plexus chakra. However, the sacral chakra, tied to emotional flow and creativity, may also feel activated, especially if you’re processing deep emotional wounds.

  • The heart chakra, located at the center of your chest, is the seat of compassion, love, and emotional healing. This is a time to forgive, yourself and others and to nurture the parts of yourself that may feel neglected.

  • The solar plexus chakra, found just above your navel, governs confidence, personal power, and boundaries. Mars' influence makes this a key area for reclaiming strength and processing anger constructively.

  • The sacral chakra, located just below your navel, governs emotional expression, creativity, and connection. This energy may be subtly activated, helping you release emotional heaviness or reconnect with your inner flow.

Here’s a List of Things You Can Do During This Full Moon

The Full Moon in Cancer encourages reflection, release, and renewal. Here are some soothing and supportive activities to help you align with its energy:

  • Create a Sacred Space: Dedicate some quiet time for yourself. Light a candle, place comforting objects around you, or play soft music. Settle into a calm and cozy space where you feel safe and can focus inward.

  • Journal Your Emotions: Spend a few moments writing about what’s been on your heart. Let your thoughts flow freely onto the page. You don’t need to hold anything back—this is your space to explore and express what feels heavy or ready to shift.

  • Write a Release List: On a separate sheet of paper, gently list anything you feel ready to let go of, old habits, worries, or emotions that no longer feel aligned. Be kind to yourself in this process, naming what you’re releasing with compassion and intention.

  • Let It Go: Choose a meaningful way to release your list. You might tear it into small pieces, submerge it in water, or fold it and tuck it away as a symbol of surrender. As you do, take a moment to breathe deeply and feel lighter, as though a weight is gently lifting.

  • Chakra Balancing: Place one hand over your heart and one over your solar plexus, just above your navel. Close your eyes and take calming breaths. Imagine a soft green light glowing in your heart and a warm golden light at your solar plexus. Allow these lights to gently grow and connect, bringing feelings of peace and strength into your whole being.

  • Repeat Affirmations: Here are a few to guide you:

    • “I honour my feelings and release what no longer serves me.”

    • “I welcome love and strength into my life.”

    • “I trust in my ability to heal and grow.”

These gentle practices are here to support your emotional flow and help you reconnect with your inner wisdom. Let this full moon be a time of nurturing, release, and renewal.

Take a moment to thank yourself for showing up and honouring this energy.

This full moon is a powerful teacher, reminding us to take responsibility for our emotions.
